Tag! Getting to know me!

I've never been e-tagged before! Thanks to Hamiharri of Another Wedding Blog for my very very first e-tag!

So, the purpose of the tag is to get to know me with 8 fact/habits about myself! Here goes:

1. I have a 10cm-long v-shaped scar where my right shin meets the foot. I jumped onto a glass cover of a portable oven when I was three and had to get 40 stiches. The doctor was afraid that I may have severed major tendons in that area. I reckon that's why I can flex my right foot more than my left!

2. I'm afraid to have children. Like Hamiharri, I will go for the elective C-section. I'm just afraid that they'll turn out as rebellious and naughty as I was.

3. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I want to be Luke Skywalker. I almost bought a S$300+ light sabre that lights up and sounds exactly like Luke's.

4. I have a chocolate bunny who is more than a year old. I'm carrying out a scientific experiment to determine how long chocolate bunnies live.

5. I love animals, especially dogs. But I don't own a dog because I can't trust myself to care for him/her. If I ever have a dog, he/she will be an Alaskan Husky.

6. I sponsor two children through World Vision. One girl from Lesotho in the African continent and one boy from the Philippines. The girl excels in Maths and Science and the boy wants to be a doctor when he grows up. I am so proud of my children and would love to visit them some day.

7. So far, I have lived in Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. If I get a chance, my next stop would be America.

8. The name i-Weddings is derived from my given name. It's not a inspired copy of the Apple's iPod name. I was given my name long before Apple gave iPod its name. So I reckon Apple got their inspiration from my name. NOT!

Reception planning - A personalised wedding is in the details

Details such as personalised bomboniere or wedding favours, napkins, colour theme, chair covers and signature drinks make or break the wedding.

Perhaps one of the most fun things to do to personalise your wedding is choosing your signature drink. I would suggest that you pick your colour theme first before starting on this journey.

signature drinks 2

Once you’ve decided on your colour theme, it’ll be easier to decide on your signature drink. Next is to decide which is your favourite cocktail. Naturally it’ll be great if both you and your fiancĂ©(e) have the same favourite cocktail. But if you don’t, don’t fret. You can have more than one signature drink. If you have two, use the each person’s favourite cocktail as the basis for each one. If you have four, use each cocktail as the basis for two. You get the drift.

Then it’s time to make it personal. I say go crazy with your experimentation. Set aside one day per week where all you do is experiment with different ingredients for your signature drink. Check out this website for some help!

And of course once you’ve settled on the ingredients, don’t forget that your job is not done yet. The coolest signature drinks have cool accessories. Figure out what type of straw you want, if any, and any embellishments, such as fruits or a little parasol, that you may wish to add on.

i-Weddings' namesakes

Darn those name stealers and cyber squaters! They have been the bane of i-Wedding's existence since i-Weddings established our little cyber-space patch through http://www.i-weddings.com.au/.

I'll demonstrate. Go to Google. Type in i-Weddings. The third link on the list is www{dot}iweddings{dot}com{dot}au. It appears to be an Australian wedding directory. And it takes the name iWeddings! *shakes head* I'm not sure if I should be happy that some corporation has imitated the i-Weddings name in the hope of leveraging on the i-Weddings name. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

On the other hand, if you type in www{dot}i-weddings{dot}com, you'll find yourself a cyber squatter. These individuals/corporations trawl the internet looking for businesses who may have a, for example, http://www.i-weddings.com.au/ which is i-Weddings' web address. They then buy up all other variations of this web address, for example www{dot}i-weddings{dot}com, in the hope that one day these businesses will want to buy that name off them.

I wrote to the owner of www{dot}i-weddings{dot}com. He/She/They wanted $8000 for the name. That's highway robbery. Or more accurately cyber robbery.

So don't be fooled. The only original i-Weddings is at http://www.i-weddings.com.au/. Imitations just won't do.

A tip for those small businesses out there. Buy up all variations of your business web address if you could. For example .com, .com.au, .net, your name + s etc etc. Otherwise you'll fall prey to these unscrupulous people who will just leverage on your hard work.

Planning - Real weddings from i-Weddings

Now that the iLoveThese palettes have taken off superbly, I think it's time to try a new series. This time we take it one step further than pictures.

Lots of couples are sharing their wedding days and ideas online through for example, Youtube. i-Weddings will be scouring all available video streaming websites to present to you the BEST of these real wedding ideas. Why not learn from those who've been there, done that!

Our very first Real Weddings series features photos and video from Jennifer and Tyler's wedding in Central California that took place on 27 May 2006. It was a outdoor garden wedding with very bold use of colours. Exquisite!

Box.net simplifies your wedding plans

Knowing that planning a wedding can be stressful for the bride, Marie Rios, a wedding consultant, wanted to make her clients’ lives easier. She started using Box.net to organize her files and make it convenient to share them with her clients.

The brides loved it because their email was less cluttered, and all of the vendor contracts and check-lists were shared, edited, and downloaded in one convenient location. They also added widgets to their wedding websites, where all their friends and family uploaded candid pictures taken on their special day.

If you’re a bride, ask your wedding consultant if they’ve heard of Box. To find out more information or sign up, go to http://www.box.net/wedding
